BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins men's basketball senior Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) was named to the All-Centennial Conference Second Team on Thursday. In addition, Polster and junior Ryan Purcell (Schaumburg, IL/Schaumburg) were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Polster leads the Blue Jays and ranks ninth in the Centennial with 15.3 points per game. He is shooting 36.3 percent from the field, including 34.3 percent from three-point range. He leads the conference with 68 made three-pointers and earlier this season he broke the school single-season record for three-point attempts (198).
Earlier this month, Polster was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team for his work in the classroom and on the court. He boasts a 3.41 cumulative GPA with a double major in Spanish and psychology. Purcell, a neuroscience major, boasts a 3.55 cumulative GPA. He has played in 19 games so far this season and is shooting 30.4 percent from the floor, including 33.3 percent from downtown.
Hopkins hits the hardwood on Saturday in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The #3 Blue Jays will battle the #2 Bullets in the second semifinal at Ursinus College. Ursinus and Dickinson will square off in the first semifinal on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
