Novice Eight Wins Gold at JHU Invitational

BALTIMORE, MD - The Novice Eight crew earned gold at the 2008 JHU Invitational on Saturday as the Blue Jays hosted the annual invitational. In addition to the Novice Eight's showing, the Varsity Eight finished in second in the petite final. The Novice Eight boat won its heat in a time of 5:57.92 before winning gold in the final with a time of 6:05.13. In the boat were freshmen Alisha Tuteja (Arlington, VA/Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology), Andrew Faulkner (Anchorage, AK/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)), Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice), Daniel Bagdorf (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme), Christian Honore (Princeton, NJ/Princeton High), George Reynolds (Washington, CT/Kent School), Marcus Webb (Moultrie, GA/Maclay School (FL)), Max Thorsbakken (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) and William Bagdorf (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme). The Varsity Eight finished third in its heat with a time of 5:49.41 before finishing as the runners-up in the petite final in 6:01.94. In the boat were junior Madison West (New Britain, CT/Hotchkiss), seniors Josiah Drewien (Hailey, ID/The Community School), and Chris Vaglia (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), junior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land), sophomore Joshua Crist (Akron, OH/Nordonia), junior Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic), sophomores Dante Ross (Napa, CA/Vintage), Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) and Nick Kreston (Houston, TX/Singapore American School).
The men's pair of sophomores Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) and Jose De La Guerra (West Palm Beach, FL/Cardinal Newman) finished fourth with a time of 8:04.77. The Varsity Four placed fourth in their heat in 7:18.52 and then finished fourth in the petite final with a time of 7:23.97. In the boat were sophomores Tristan Levey (Detroit, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood), Larkin Luo (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin), Alexander Baish (Ijamsville, MD/Georgetown Prep), freshman Steve Cardinali (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock Township) and sophomore Adam Ammar (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young). Next up for Hopkins is the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ April 12-13.
