BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins men's and women's crew head coach Steve Perry announces the addition of Tony Buchman to the men's coaching staff. Buchman, who will coach the novice team, comes to Hopkins after eight years at nearby Loyola College.

At Loyola, Buchman was the head coach of the men's varsity crew team from 2000 to 2002 and served as the Interim Director of Men's and Women's Rowing during the 2000-2001 season. During this time, he led the varsity men to a silver medal at the Avaya Collegiate Championships (now known as the National Invitational Collegiate Regatta) as well as the grand finals at the Dad Vail Regatta. Buchman also served as the men's freshman coach in 1999-2000 and again in 2002-03, where he developed Loyola's young talent into championship-caliber rowers. From 2003 to 2007, he also led the novice women squad, serving as the freshman head coach for both the men and women. The novice women's squads he led played key roles in Loyola winning back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Rowing titles in 2004 and 2005, as well as a three-peat first-place finish in the novice 8 in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

A 1997 graduate of Clemson University, Buchman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and was part of many successful crews as a member of the Tigers' heavyweight program. He raced to over 25 victories and 40 top-three finishes over the course of his college career. During his rowing days at Clemson, Buchman also coached the novice women's program for two seasons while serving as a member of the team's executive board.

A native of Northern Virginia, Buchman served five years of active duty in the United States Army after graduating from Clemson. In addition to his coaching duties, he works as an analyst for a government contractor. He and his wife, Danelle, live in the Woodberry neighborhood of Baltimore.
