Box Score

CARY, NC - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the year with a 2-1 win over Capital University on Saturday afternoon at the Esprit DIII Soccer Festival. For the second straight game it was senior Kaitlin Giannetti (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) providing the difference-maker in this one as her second half goal broke a 1-1 tie.

The Blue Jays got on the board first in this one, as freshman Kate Dunn (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) had a thrown-in with about 10 minutes left in the first half. The ball got batted around in the box and was eventually knocked into the net by a Capital player, giving Hopkins the 1-0 lead.

Capital tied the game not long into the second half only to have the Blue Jays' seniors answer right back. Senior Nikkole Haines (Ramona, CA/Ramona) directed a pass that Giannetti was able to knock home, breaking the tie and giving Hopkins the eventual win.

Junior Kerry Hamilton (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) continued her strong play in net with five saves.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on Sunday afternoon, in a battle of top ten teams as the ninth-ranked Blue Jays take on #4 Puget Sound. Game time in Cary, North Carolina is set for 2 pm.
